Greenwood County Community Foundation (GCCF) recently awarded Youth and Education funding to Lakelands Region YMCA to provide scholarships for the Greenwood YMCA Afterschool Program. Greenwood YMCA Afterschool Program will enroll 275 Greenwood School District 50 students in the 2023-2024 school year. The Countybank Foundation, established in 1971 representing Countybank and Greenwood Capital, recently donated $3,000 to the Lakelands Region YMCA. This follows a $25,000 foundation donation in 2022 for Greenwood’s new fitness center, located in the former Bowers-Rodgers Resale store in Uptown Greenwood. The most recent donation will go towards installing new lockers at this location. The Countybank Foundation has a longstanding relationship with the Lakelands Region YMCA when it comes to giving. “It is important that the people in our community have a positive place to focus their energy,” said David Tompkins, Greenwood Market Executive for Countybank. “Giving to the Lakelands Region YMCA allows us to support a community and service-based organization that has an impact across Greenwood.”
The Lakelands Region YMCA offers a variety of programs from afterschool and summer camps to fitness and sports. Its mission to centered on putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
“The Lakelands Region YMCA is very appreciative of the Countybank Foundation’s continued support,” said Brian Harlan, Lakelands Region YMCA CEO. “Their contributions help us build better programs and facilities, and ultimately a better community.”

The Laurens YMCA location and Piedmont Rural Telephone Cooperative held our annual Laurens County Y cup on March 25, 2023. This year’s event was the 19th annual Golf For Kids tournament. Proceeds from this event directly benefit our Scholarship Program. This program is designed to support those unable to participate because of financial difficulties. The Lakelands YMCA does not refuse anyone the opportunity to participate because of their inability to pay. In 2022, the Lakelands Y awarded more that $174,102 in financial assistance.
