Lakelands Region YMCA announces expansion of Wellness Operations in Greenwood, SC

Names Angela Christopher Branch Director

Greenwood, SC – Lakelands Region YMCA is excited to announce the Uptown Greenwood YMCA will open November 7, 2022.  The Uptown Y will be located at 325 Pressley Street (former Bowers Rodgers Resale Store).  The Center will be led by its new Director, Angela Christopher.  Ms. Christopher is the former co-owner and Director of Anytime Fitness Greenwood.  Christopher states, “this location is perfect because we can focus on corporate wellness with all of the uptown businesses; incorporate urban wellness activities into the thriving Uptown Market area; and most importantly provide grassroot wellness opportunities to the surrounding neighborhoods and neighboring park.”

The Uptown Greenwood YMCA will complement the other Lakelands YMCA’s in Greenwood, Laurens, Abbeville and Gray Court. Uptown will focus primarily on adult programming offering general workouts but will specialize in small group training. STRONG Team Training is a small group training program Christopher is designing exclusively to operate at Uptown Greenwood. “The pandemic has really changed our fitness trends and created the need for live and virtual training options; quick, yet efficient/guided workouts with a skilled trainer, as well as a real coaching experience to provide you with an awesome workout and caring environment. We are especially excited about the technology that we are incorporating with our use of MyZone and other digital/display options for our members to plan, execute, schedule and see videos of their workouts.” MyZone is an innovative, extremely accurate wearable heart-rate based system to conveniently monitor physical activity. MyZone monitors heart rate, calories and time exercising in real time and converts that into MyZone Effort Points (MEPS).

“Angela has more than 25 years wellness experience with 15 certifications and 6 specializations. Her passion for creating healthy lifestyles and healthy communities fit right into the mission of the Lakelands YMCA; we are thrilled to expand the great work of the Y and introduce the newest fitness technology and programming right in the heart of our community”, states Johnathan Bass, District Vice President.
